Bored With Music is a Bay Area show guide, music feed, band and venue index, and preserved scene record. It connects four things that should never be hard to find together: the day, the room, the band, and something you can hear.
How it works
Listings begin with Steve Koepke’s The List and evidence published by venues and artists. Automation parses the bills, keeps dates useful, connects known identities, and holds uncertain matches for review. Corrections remain part of the system because no parser knows a scene better than the people inside it.
The public can read. Signed-in listeners can vote. Dates, sources, rooms, and relationships stay visible instead of disappearing inside a recommendation engine.

The site is also the artwork.
Bored With Music is useful on purpose. It is also a conceptual web artwork about memory, local subcultures, and the strange work of asking machines to preserve human scenes.
Mainstream discovery systems use opaque automation to flatten culture into sponsored, frictionless playlists. Here, automation is turned toward the opposite task: maintaining a local, evidence-backed, deliberately unfashionable public record. The old-web interface, visible friction, archive, and daily maintenance are part of the medium.
AI works backstage. It parses listings, proposes identity matches, checks links, and helps maintain the archive. It does not invent shows, manufacture votes, turn ambiguity into certainty, or replace the people who make the music and run the rooms. The tension is the point: a machine quietly cataloging living human culture while being constrained by sources, corrections, and memory.
The project asks what a scene becomes when physical spaces disappear, local culture moves online, and algorithms increasingly decide what is discoverable. Its answer is incomplete by design: preserve the record, expose the machinery, and keep the path back to the actual band, venue, and show.
