Kurt wrote this song when he was living with his girlfriend who he apparently had many disagreements with. She wasn’t very supportive of his music career and I believe said he should get a “real job.” Anyhow, I think Kurt Cobain wrote this song about Courtney Love or some other woman being someone who didn’t criticize him and was an “easy friend with an ear to lend”(like the song says) I say it may have been Courtney Love because they met in 1989, when the song was released. And he did marry her
